Tucked deep within Manhattan’s historic SoHo district—where cast-iron facades, cobblestone streets, and 19th-century factories once thrived—The Soho Grand Hotel mixes sleek luxury with whispers of the past. Chic interiors, gilded bars, and vintage décor set the stage, but some guests swear the glamour is occasionally interrupted by inexplicable chills, flickering lights, phantom footsteps in empty hallways, and the sense that SoHo’s industrial ghosts may still be clocked in for their eternal night shift. If you crave ambiance, elegance, and a dash of the uncanny, this might be your perfect haunted hideaway.
Hotel History
Opened in 1996, The Soho Grand Hotel was the first luxury hotel to open in SoHo in over a century, ushering in a new era for what had been a former industrial zone turned artist enclave.
Located at 310 West Broadway, the hotel was designed to honor SoHo’s historic roots—using cast-iron motifs, loft-style layouts, vintage factory lighting, and warehouse-inspired architecture.
Before its reinvention, the surrounding area was once part of New York’s 19th-century “Cast-Iron District,” filled with textile factories, printing presses, and warehouses. The hotel’s design intentionally pays tribute to this Victorian industrial heritage.
The hotel also sits close to areas once known as “Hell’s Hundred Acres,” a notoriously dangerous and gritty industrial zone where factory accidents, fires, and mysterious deaths were once tragically common—fueling today’s paranormal speculation.
