Brief  Hotel History

• The inn’s original structure dates to 1716, when Captain James Minot built the East House portion.

• During the lead-up to the Battles of Lexington and Concord in April 1775, part of what is now the inn served as an ammunition storage and then makeshift field hospital for wounded Patriot soldiers.

• In 1835-37, famed writer Henry David Thoreau lived here while attending Harvard.

• The inn began operating in its hotel form in 1889, and adopted the name “Concord’s Colonial Inn” in 1900.

• Over the years it’s welcomed notable guests, undergone expansions, and become a member of the Historic Hotels of America.

This inn is well-known for hauntings: documented guest reports, paranormal investigations, and the inn’s own website all acknowledge the supernatural lore.

• Room 24 (2nd floor): The most cited haunted room in the inn. During the Revolution it served as Dr. Timothy Minot’s operating room. Reports include seeing a “grayish figure” at the side of the bed, especially one honeymoon night in June 1966.

• Room 27 (ground floor): Believed to have served as a morgue during the war and is associated with heavier paranormal energy.

• Hallways & lounge areas: Guests and staff report footsteps where no one is, doors opening on their own, and shadowy figures—especially near the Liberty Room and central inn sections.

• Other apparitions: Sightings include a tall slim man in a top-hat and a woman in a long blue dress lurking near public rooms or historic tavern areas.
