Brief Hotel History
The Kate Shepard House was built in 1897 for railroad executive Charles Martin Shepard and designed by well-known Victorian architect George Franklin Barber in the ornate Queen Anne style.
In 1910, Shepard’s daughters Kate and Isabel converted the residence into a boarding and day school for children of prominent Mobile families.
